Black Cat Marvel Rivals: Fortune, Controls & Crosshair
Source review: 12 October 2026. Official hero reference and dated balance notes are linked below. Practice suggestions are editorial methods, not tested combos or competitive benchmarks.
Black Cat is a Duelist whose settings need to support target acquisition, movement and resource awareness. Start by checking which ability variant your current client is using. The official page displays several variants, so a guide should not mix their attacks, bindings and team-up effects into one assumed default kit.
Read the active kit before copying a setup
| Ability family | What to recognise | What to check in your client |
|---|---|---|
| Feline Fury / Claw Whip | Primary-attack variants. | Which attack is active before using a range or combo guide. |
| Calling Card | The targeted ultimate. | Its current targeting prompt and available targets. |
| Cat’s Cradle | A forward lunge. | Current availability and the position where it leaves you. |
| Turn of Fortune | A grapple-related resource tool. | Active variant and target acquisition. |
| Fortune’s Favor | A Fortune-spending ability family. | Available resource and the action currently offered. |
| Thieving Grace / Stealthy Catwalk | Jumping and surface movement. | Your own binds and intended travel direction. |
This is a reading aid for the named ability families, not a complete numerical build. Use the current client and relevant patch notes when the official page lists more than one version. A button name copied from one variant does not verify another variant’s behaviour.
Do not rely on an old invincibility claim
The official balance post for version 20260911 removed Phantom Pursuit’s invincibility and replaced it with damage reduction and Unstoppable while casting. It also added visibility changes to Helmet of Hades. An older description of a completely invulnerable engagement therefore needs to be rechecked.
Editorial implication: make a return-route check part of your practice instead of treating an ability name as a promise of safety. The patch description does not establish that every fight is safe, that a particular combo wins, or that an unchanged sensitivity solves an engagement mistake.

Choose a crosshair around the task you lose track of
Test whether you can find the center marker during a turn, identify the intended target before a targeted action and keep the same reference while moving. Start with a small cross and compare a dot at a similar visual size. Choose a color you can locate on the practice surfaces you actually use, then test an outline before increasing every dimension.
Keep the comparison narrow. A different reticle, sensitivity and resolution in the same session makes it hard to tell what helped. If the reticle stays readable but target acquisition is inconsistent, repeat that task before enlarging the crosshair. A crosshair cannot display every resource or make an ability available when the required state is missing.
No player sensitivity or verified import code is attributed here. Use Marvel Rivals’ own reticle controls. A VALORANT profile string describes a different game’s settings and should not be presented as a Marvel Rivals preset.
A short resource-and-movement practice log
- Record the starting state. Note client version, active abilities, team-up selection, reticle and your own sensitivity.
- Choose one target-acquisition task. Repeat the same starting position and intended target; note whether you locate the center before acting.
- Observe the resource display. Record what was available before the action and what changed afterward. Do not infer a universal cost from memory.
- Check the finishing position. Identify where the action leaves you and whether your intended return route remains accessible.
- Change one setting. Repeat the same exercise and compare the notes, rather than judging by one successful fight.
This is an editorial test method. A measured combo guide would additionally need a current build, named sequence, target conditions and reproducible damage or timing records. Those measurements are not claimed here.
Separate a control problem from a decision problem
| Observation | Suggested next test |
|---|---|
| The center disappears during movement | Compare color or outline while holding geometry steady. |
| The intended target is acquired inconsistently | Repeat target acquisition from the same start and record corrections. |
| The expected action is not available | Check the active kit, resource display and client prompts before changing sensitivity. |
| The action succeeds but you cannot disengage | Review the chosen route and timing; a new reticle alone does not test that decision. |
Team-up and patch checking
Record team-up selection as part of a setup note. The official reference contains conditional variants; do not add every listed bonus to a single base-kit description. If a team-up changes an ability, repeat the relevant practice task with that selection active and keep the observations separate.
The October 9 balance bulletin was also reviewed for this guide’s source check. For future updates, begin with the patch notes hub and the publisher’s dated notes. A source-check date does not mean that an ability was measured in-game.
Questions players ask
Is Black Cat a Vanguard?
No. The official game reference identifies her as a Duelist.
Should I copy an exact “best” sensitivity?
This guide does not establish one. Use the controlled task and saved baseline to compare your own setup.
Why do two guides show different attack names?
Check their source dates and active variants. The official reference displays multiple attack versions, so a difference needs investigation rather than a merged list of assumed abilities.
